Hüseyin Rahmi Gürpınar Museum – Heybeliada

The Hüseyin Rahmi Gürpınar Museum is the former residence of one of Turkey’s most prominent novelists, located on Heybeliada. The author lived in this wooden house from 1912 until his death in 1944, writing many of his major works here. His novels, rich in social realism and humor, vividly depict everyday life in late Ottoman and early Republican Istanbul.

The three-story wooden mansion reflects the architectural character of its era, with a simple yet elegant design. Inside, the museum preserves Gürpınar’s personal belongings, handwritten manuscripts, letters, and period furniture, offering visitors a glimpse into both his creative world and the cultural fabric of early 20th-century Istanbul.

After an extensive restoration, the museum reopened to the public in the early 2020s and now operates under the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism. Today, it stands as one of Heybeliada’s most significant cultural landmarks — a must-visit destination for literature enthusiasts and history lovers alike.
